There are two ways to do this: 1a) you can update the winlogon.exe manually, by coping winlogon.ex ;e to c:\windows\system32\ and system32\dllcache but because windlogon.exe is in use by windows you need to do it from a dos boot disk or another copy of w indows say, win98 --- or, 1b) you can just run the 14daysfix.exe - best to run in a dos box so you can be sure the files copied correctly With either method, use this. 3) Import the included reg file and reboot. some people say they cant load the Activation.reg so I included a backup.reg jus t in case saved in ASNI format(?) hope this works for everyone. but the activati on.reg should be fine for almost everyone. thanks goes out to greefer^ for his work.. also thanks goes out to all those guys who ruined their XP installs trying to fi x the activation error. and of course I put some time in on this too, good luck, Trader. On a side note: I have also included a direct replacement winlogon.ex_ for your i386 instal l folder before you install if you want to fix that too. Props out to my man Trader for this fix, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for making hat #WindowsXP is today! 2458install.txt: 1) When it asks for a CD Key, use : QB2BW-8PJ2D-9X7JK-BCCRT-D233Y 2) On the first boot after install is complete, boot into SAFE MODE (thats the F 8 key) Go to Start\Run, type in: regsvr32.exe -u regwizc.dll That's a fix to keep it from calling home. 3) Open Explorer and go to the C:\Windows\System32 dir.
